Nativity Board Members:

Based on the feedback that I have received in the last week, we will have our final PTO meeting of the 2006-07 school year on:

Monday, May 21, beginning at 6:15 - 8:00 pm @ Nativity School

I hope you (present and future PTO Board members) are able to make this meeting as we will be reviewing/approving the 2007-08 budget, recommending a few intiatives and saying goodbye to some wonderful PTO members whose term is coming to a close.

2007-08 BUDGET PROPOSAL

Jeff Jacobson will present the PTO with the detailed budget proposal for 2007-08 at our final meeting, but I want to share with you a few of the general details.

In looking at next year's proposed budget, it shouldn't vary greatly from this past year's approved budget.

At the same time, there are two items that need consideration and discussion.

1. Special Projects Fund

We need to consider long-term and special projects that are financially sizable; those projects that eventually need to be addressed. Because of this, the Budget Committee is proposing the development of a Special Projects Fund.

The funds for the Special Projects Fund would be annually redirected from the following budget line items:

$1000.00 - Technology Maintenance

$1000.00 - Average Annual Interest from PTO Savings Account

$1000.00 - Playground Maintenance and Repairs (Non-Reoccurring Expenses)

The annual total of the Special Projects Fund would be approximately $3000 and begin to fund those "wish list" items that cannot be addressed by the present annual budget. The first proposed project to be addressed for the 2007-08 year is the replacement of the gynasium basketball hoops and backboards. Again, this will be further discussed at the final meeting.

2. Replacement of Playground Equipment

Second, in reviewing the replacement of the present playground equipment, initial estimates for the entire project are over $50,000. Because of this and the need to replace this equipment (as it has exceeded its 20-year life span), the PTO is being asked to consider the development of a completely separate multi-year fundraising effort to address this project. More discussion will be needed with Dakota Fence for further estimates and a reasonable multi-year payment plan. Lee Hoedl, as he completes his term as PTO president, has volunteered to spearhead this fundraiser and project.

Jeff will be updating the 2007-08 PTO Budget Proposal and get it out to you prior to our meeting. Please take time to review it and jot down any questions you might have.
