Oct. 17 Update: Lee is Over 800 Miles Down the Road Toward Boston and Its Marathon

Friend:

It has been the most interesting (actually, downright spooky) week of running in the Fargo, North Dakota area. We had unseasonably wet weather that lasted for almost five days straight, which raised the Red River (running north through Fargo) to flood stage level. With the fall season beginning and the ground already saturated, there's been nowhere for the water to go. So, amidst the autumn rains, I chose to take on a few of my most watery training runs to date. In fact, after a 14-mile training run, I had more rain water on me than I had sweat. You can view (YouTube) one of my long weekend runs - during just the drizzle - by going to my homepage. In that video, I recognize those individuals and families that are my recent sponsors - THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR DONATION!

This past week's training miles were dedicated to Fargo resident Rusty Ouart and his family. Rusty was injured while on mission in Iraq. He is currently at the Fort Lewis Medical Base in Tacoma, WA. Rusty and his wife Marilyn have 3 children, Skylar 10, Brady 8, and Jayden 5. Please keep them in your prayers as well.

I am now just over $2200 for the Children's Hospital Boston, toward a personal goal of $5000.

Would you be able to help me? The processes (online, cash, or check) by which you can donate any funds you are able to share can be found at DONATIONS. But first, let me give you just one suggestion in this update:

  • Start Small, But Think Big - Try this interesting proposition: I am not requesting any sizable check for a donation. All I want is any spare change that you can find this week. In fact, the smaller the better. Pennies, nickels and dimes. Collect them from the areas around your home, your car floor, cookie jars and colleagues' desk. That's all I would like this week. Collect them and give them to me (if your in the Fargo area) or cash them in and mail me a check... even if it's for $1.57. If 100 persons did that, I will have accumulated $157.00 for the Children's Hospital Boston. Start small, but think big... Regardless of how you turn the donation in to me (cash or check), you will receive tax-deductible credit for it.

What will you receive in return for your donation?

  • You will receive a front-row seat to the 2009 Boston Marathon as I bring out the LEECAM once again to record just such a race. What is the LEECAM? Check out the LEECAM's work at the 2008 Disneyworld Marathon and the 2008 Disneyland Half-Marathon.
  • You will also be personally recognized in an upcoming YouTube video for your contribution (not the amount, just the name).
  • You will receive my deepest gratitude and I will dedicate one mile or more of my 1628 miles to you and your family.

At present, I have completed over 800 miles of the total 1628 miles from Fargo to Boston.

With a little less than 50% of my miles completed, that leaves only 828 miles to complete before April 20, 2009. Virtually speaking, I am presently just over the border and into the state of Ohio. To follow my progress, visit: WHERE'S LEE - VIRTUAL MAP.

At my personal Boston Marathon website (coinciding with the Miles for Miracles Team Boston website), in addition to tracking my virtual miles, I am updating information pertaining to:

  • the dedication and prayer during each mile (or set of miles) of the 1628 total miles for a particular person(s). You can see to whom the miles of have been dedicated. And if you would like me to offer a friend or family member up in prayer during my training runs, please just send me an email at leehoedl@yahoo.com. I am in the process of finally logging those dedications since April 2008.
  • sharing personal thoughts and reflections between now and through the 2009 Boston Marathon. I will try to use this space to motivate you in your goals and dreams - as we are all in this journey together.
  • the acknowledgement of those who have sponsored and supported me throughout this journey. Without you, I couldn't possibly accomplish what I am attempting; in advance, thank you for your support.
  • providing direct links so that you and others can donate to this wonderful cause. And if you have any present desire to donate, you can do so online right now by going directly to: http://howtohelp.childrenshospital.org/bostonmarathon09/pfp/?ID=HL0057

In advance, I want to thank you for any support (money, prayer, encouragement) that you have given or will give toward my efforts. Please feel free to share this information with family and friends. If 1000 persons each gave only one single dollar, that would be quite a large donation to such a worthy cause - and always remember that no donation is too small.

As well, your prayers and positive vibes are also welcomed. Thanks so much for your support and your friendship, as I keep on trekking on...

Peace, Lee

ANY AND ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX-DEDUCTIBLE.
