NATIVITY
PLAYGROUND RENOVATION WEBSITE
Ken:
Below
is the finalized initial wish list from the compiled preferences
of committee members, area and Nativity school children. References to
page numbers are drawn from the landscape structures catalogue
distributed at the Nativity Playground Renovation Committee meeting. Rather
than attempt to reword or sanitize wish lists submitted, I have divided
comments and lists into specific categories and present them to you below.
Ken, please use your professional/creative judgment when creating initial
designs from the information provided and let me know if you need any
further direction from me.
The
tentative timeline the committee has established for this project completion
can be located at tentative timeline. It is
my understanding that from the time we make our final committee decision
on playground components and design, it will only take approximately 18
days for delivery. Is that still correct? As well, Ken, can you do the
following for me:
1.
Let me know if the tentative timeline the
committee has established is reasonable.
2.
When the committee will be able to view the preliminary design developed
from the submitted wish list below. We will need to convene to review
the preliminary design, cost total(s) and space need for the designed
structure
In
advance, thanks for your assistance in getting initial designs for us,
Ken. Our next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 28 at 5:00 pm in
the Nativity Library - please let me know if there is anything feedback
that you will be able to provide for us by that time.
Again,
thanks for your assistance!
Peace,
Lee Hoedl
INITIAL
WISH LIST - NATIVITY PLAYGROUND PLAY STRUCTURE - 05.19.08
OVERALL
STRUCTURE DESIGN
There
are a few designs that seem to be preferred. Below are the those designs
and comments supporting the overall structural design.
PP.
60-61 - CHILDREN'S PLAZA AND FAMILY CENTER - Almost all liked
this playstructure best. I might replace the more expensive white bridge
with the red rope bridge found on page 55. I would also get rid of the
view blocking yellow & blue cascade climber (example p160) in favor
of adding everyone's favorite ---- Hemisphere Climber on pgs 160 &
29 as a separate structure. I like how the main structure has 4 slides,
the green Conical Climber (pg 79) which was another favorite amongst
the kids, and it appears very ADA friendly. I would love to add on to
the structure with some strength equipment... like a Curved or Straight
Track Ride (p. 174-175) or a Air Dancer Overhead (p. 90) which could
stretch from the end where the blue toadstool stairs are (Pod Climber
p. 84). I would get rid of those pods in favor of some more upper body
equipment if possible. I would also get rid of the Spider Web Climber
(pg 162) since you'd be adding a huge climbing structure with the Hemisphere
Climber and because we also have the metal dome already. Off from the
end of the Track Ride could maybe be a Arch Tire Swing (p. 178) or a
Ring-A-Ling Overhead Event (pg 92).
I know you mentioned the structure on page 54-55 as something that gives
a longer "more bang for the buck" structure - but keep in
mind the following: it would very likely appeal and be appropriate for
only a select group of kids - athletic 4th & 5th graders who do
not have disabilities. Kids younger than 4th grade will not have the
arm strength or height to easily enjoy the equipment and only a small
portion of it could be considered ADA friendly. It requires lines of
kids rather than structures that many can play on at the same time.
Just some thoughts.
PP.
54-55 - YAVNEH DAY SCHOOL
- The preference for this design is that it lends itself as a visually
opened structure that children can play on, through and underneath.
It is recommended that a more balanced design, that does not include
so much upper body, be investigated (i.e. incorporating components listed
below).
COLOR
SCHEME
There
seems be a general consensus (from note references and verbal comments)
that the color scheme of the play structure should consist of primary
colors (i.e. red, blue and yellow). As for specific color assignment to
particular components, it will initially be left to Dakota Fence personnel
to incorporate a balance of colors and components submitted.
PREFERRED
COMPONENTS
Below
are submitted component requests from various committee members and children's
input.
