CONCESSIONS COMMITTEE

It is the purpose of the Concessions Committee to provide refreshment and food items in the Nativity Cafeteria at the annual Carnival as another avenue of fund-raising.

Much of the food items for purchase are either donated or purchased initially at a much reduced cost.

ONGOING DISCUSSION ITEMS/INFORMATION

  • In 2005, Concessions operated from 5:30 to 7:30 with Happy Joe’s pizza, cans of pop and Krispy Kreme donuts. Krispy Kreme donated 10 dozen donuts and Nativity purchased 10 dozen with buy-one-dozen-get-one-free punch cards. Donuts were sold for 50 cents each.
  • The switch was made to cans of pop instead of fountain pop due to problems with soda fountains, and due to the fact that cans are just easier to deal with overall – no renting machines, no cylinders, etc. Pop was purchased on sale for no more than 25 cents per can and sold for 50 cents. The pop was kept cold by just having sit outside the back door of the cafeteria for the afternoon, and then in coolers. Keep a rag handy to wipe off cans as they are sold.
  • Happy Joe’s again provided pizza at $8.00 per pizza (contact Mike & Cheryl Post at HJ). Slices were again sold for $1.25.
  • A ‘package’ food deal should be considered for concessions next year to avoid needing change and to make it easier for the cashier to add up purchases. We ran out of quarters constantly.
  • Concessions had considerably less traffic than in previous years. Happy Joe’s delivered 67 pizzas (down from 80 the last two years) and we still had 15 whole pizzas left at the end of the night that we sold for anywhere from $10 to $5 depending on how much of the evening was left. There were 5 dozen Krispy Kreme’s left that were also sold by the dozen for $5, and there were about 100 cans of pop and about 50 juice boxes left, some of which were sold at the Fat Tuesday sale.
  • Recommendation for 2006 would be to start with 30 pizzas at 5:30, an additional 30 by 6:00 and then play it by ear. 12-15 dozen donuts should be enough, and 360 cans of pop should be enough as well. Juice boxes should be discussed before purchasing.
  • The cotton candy machine and Culver’s custard stand were in the gym but should be moved into the cafeteria with the rest of the food. The cotton candy machine created a fog in the gym, so making cotton candy should be completed before the carnival for sale during the event. Making all the cotton candy during Thursday evening setup would be ideal.
